Welcome to Citizens

We are a church located in downtown Los Angeles that gathers for worship on Sundays at Roybal Learning Center. Led by our lead pastor, Jason Min,  our vision is to be a city within a city, a community transformed by the gospel, living out the life of heaven here and now.

Jesus reminds us in the Sermon on the Mount that we are called to be “a city on a hill,” an alternative community marked by radical humility, love, compassion, and a genuine concern for our neighbors.

God commands his people in Jeremiah 29:7, “Seek the shalom of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its shalom you will find your shalom.”

There are two important truths found in this simple sentence. On one hand, it reminds us that our calling as believers is not to build something beautiful for our own sake, but rather to be sent out as witnesses to the gospel of grace, calling others into an abundant life under Christ’s reign and rule and joining God in the work he is already doing to redeem and renew that which is broken. At the same time, it also reminds us that this city isn’t our home and that our allegiances, values, and patterns of life should reflect our identity as citizens of heaven, an identity given to us by grace through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

Sunday Gatherings

Sunday gatherings are a time for us to gather as a church to worship together. Our worship service begins at 10:30am and runs for about 75 minutes. A typical Sunday will consist of biblical teaching, communal prayer, and a time of singing. We also have ministries specifically designed for our children and youth that meet separately in age-divided groups with our background-checked and fully vaccinated volunteers.

A recording of our service will be made available on Sunday at 8pm for those who are unable to join us in-person. We look forward to worshiping with you all!

Community Groups

Community Groups are groups of 10-12 people who commit to meeting weekly (or monthly for families) to share life together, encourage one another in the gospel, and cultivate deeper relationships within the church. Our Community Groups run for 12 weeks in the Fall and 12 weeks in the Spring and meet both in-person and online.

Our Community Groups are currently closed for the Spring season. Sign-ups for Fall Community Groups will open in the summer.

City Events

Each month our church hosts a series of dinners, happy hours, and workshops in homes and venues throughout LA where we gather to eat, get to know one another, and meet new friends in this busy city. This is a great way to get plugged into our community especially for those who are not yet ready to commit to a weekly community group. Signups for City Events are on a first come first serve basis.

Date: Aug 10
Time: 6:30PM

We are so excited to have a member of our community, Angie Lee, host our next City Dinner at her home in South Pasadena. We will be gathering to eat dinner and watch "Mass" - a 2021 indie film that examines the journey of grief, anger, and acceptance. Afterwards, Angie will help facilitate a round-table discussion on the movie.
